Shanghai export average spot rates for the following trade lanes are among the 15 component trade lanes in the weekly SCFI-Containerized Freight Index,produced by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange and weigh 57.5 percent of the SCFI comprehensive reading.


SCFI - SHANGHAI CONTAINER FREIGHT INDEX*
SCFI comprehensive reading of 1,426.23, up 478.65 or 50.5 percent from year-end.
Index at 2012 high: The Shanghai Container Freight Index comprehensive reading for April 20 was 1,426.23 — the highest level year-to-date — up 9.36 points or 0.7 percent from the week before. The index was 407.26 points or 40.0 percent higher than a year ago and 478.65 points or 50.5 percent higher than year-end.

To U.S. WEST COAST base ports*
Spot rate increases: The April 20 U.S. West Coast base port average spot rate was $2,415 per FEU, $130 or 5.7 percent more than the week before, and $723 or 42.7 percent higher than year-end.  

To U.S. EAST COAST base ports*
Spot rate up: The April 20 U.S. East Coast base port average spot rate was $3,556 per FEU, $40 or 1.1 percent more than the week before, and $664 or 23 percent higher than year-end. 

To EUROPE base ports*
Spot rate dips: The April 20 Europe base port average spot rate was $1,708 per TEU, a drop of $36 or 2.1 percent from the week before. The spot rate was $769 or 81.9 percent more than a year ago and $1,007 or 143.7 percent higher than year-end.

To MEDITERRANEAN base ports*
Spot rate drops: The April 20 Mediterranean base port average spot rate was $1,747 per TEU, $15 or 0.9 percent lower than the week before. The rate was $821 or 88.7 percent more than the same week last year and $1,033 or 144.7 percent higher than year-end.
